Affordable Superfoods: Eat Healthy on a Budget!

Anyone who has ever heard the term “superfoods” knows that the concept of superfoods has been trending on social media for some time. Essentially, a superfood is a food that has a nutritional value that is packed into a portion. It’s not always cheap, but there are some incredible superfoods that will help meet your needs no matter what you want. Here are the best affordable superfoods!

Sweet potatoes

Sweet potatoes are an incredible food and one of the best sources of vitamins B6, B12, and B12. Vitamin C. Sweet potatoes are a great source of protein, fiber, iron, calcium, potassium, magnesium, zinc, and potassium. They are rich in vitamin B7, which lowers blood pressure and benefits the nervous system, as well as vitamins A and B8. 

Chia

Did you know that chia seeds are an important part of the diet and fortunately are one of the cheapest superfoods currently available on the market? You can buy them for less than £3-4, which reduces the cost of protein, fat, carbohydrates, fiber, vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients to just a few cents per serving. 

Chia seeds are rich in calcium, contain a high proportion of vegetable iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, zinc, copper, manganese, and magnesium. They contain a good amount of protein, fiber, vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients and are not tasteless, so you can add them to everything. I enjoy a tablespoon or two for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and a teaspoon or so for lunch or dinner. 

Flaxseeds

Both flaxseeds and chia seeds are a wonderful way to regulate digestion and make it easier to get enough fiber into your day. Flax also offers a unique benefit that Chia does not have, it is a great way to protect your heart by lowering cholesterol levels in the body and protecting it from cancer. I have found that, while they are nutty and delicious, they have a similar diet in terms of fiber and omega-3 content. 

Flaxseeds are sometimes more affordable than chia seeds, but they are simply ground up compared to whole flaxseeds, the body cannot digest them and they are sometimes less nutritious. 

You can grind whole flaxseeds at home with a coffee grinder or grind them in a food processor, blender, or even a blender and ground them into a powder. 

There are many ideas for using flaxseeds, using them in everything you want – making smoothies, putting them in the morning bowl, making homemade pizza crusts, incorporating them into smoothies, grinding them into whole flour grains, and using them as egg replacements in cooking or baking. Try mixing chia seeds into your pudding to make it a healthier alternative to eggs or even as an ingredient in your breakfast cereals. Keep the flame in the fridge or freezer for at least two weeks, as it can go rancid at room temperature. Green tea is a known source of the antioxidant epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), which has been linked to improved heart health. Green tea also helps with stress, as it is rich in the amino acid L-theanine, which helps to relax. Regular green tea sold in tea bags is excellent for health and much cheaper, while matcha is another well-known superfood form. Nowadays most supermarkets sell organic tea bags in large quantities, so take a box and enjoy one or two cups a day. 

Like any other liquid, use green tea that has already been prepared and chilled as a base for smoothies (try a beginner’s smoothie, for example). For cold brewing, brew the green teas before brewing them in bags of filtered water and ice, or brew them in cold water with a warm slice of lemon to enjoy.
